Guidelines for nutrient solution management in cascade hydroponic systems

Cascade hydroponic systems offer an innovative approach to nutrient management by reusing the drainage nutrient solution from a primary (donor) crop to nourish a secondary (receiver) crop, and potentially a tertiary crop, that can tolerate higher salinity levels. This method significantly reduces water and nutrient waste compared to monoculture systems, as the solution is reused multiple times rather than discarded after each crop cycle. The overall volume of discharged solution is much smaller, and less harmful to the environment compared to larger volumes of nutrient-rich runoff solutions derived from monoculture systems.
