Living Into Anti-Racist Commitments: Implementing an Anti-Racist Organizational Assessment in a Social Work Program

The Council on Social Work Education’s 2022 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards require all accredited social work programs to examine critically their explicit and implicit curriculum to ensure alignment with antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI) practices. Effective assessment is a critical piece of implementing these ADEI efforts. In this article, we present a description of one social work program’s experience implementing an anti-racist organizational self-assessment. Organizational self-assessments, like the one discussed in this article, offer schools an opportunity to examine critically core components of their organization (e.g., policies, culture, power dynamics) to determine where along a continuum of antiracist practice they are situated and to design efforts to move the school along that continuum.
