Carbonates determination
The total carbonates determination is obtained by reacting the soil with HCl. The acid will decompose the carbonates into CO2. From the volume of developed CO2, the carbonate content is quantified given the stoichiometric reaction: CaCO3 + 2HCl → CO2 + H2O + CaCl2
