HBr-Catalyzed Construction of Sulfur-Containing Heterocycles via Difunctionalization of Alkenes

Abstract Sulfur-containing heterocycles are important chemical entities and key structural motifs in many biologically active molecules, representing valuable but synthetically challenging building blocks. Herein, we report a new method for the construction of sulfur-containing heterocycles under mild conditions using a green oxidative system composed of HBr and DMSO. This transformation employs inexpensive and readily available thiophenols as the sulfur source, operates without external photocatalysts and metals, and offers a general approach for the construction of small-ring and bridged-ring systems.
