Assessing the impact of Bioinformatics in multiple life science domains
In the ever-evolving field of Science, Bioinformatics of late has recently emerged as a new, advanced, and significant interdisciplinary field within the life sciences. Bioinformatics, with its myriad tools, has its hands in several fields, abetting the advances in science. From Protein visualization, using software like PyMol, Chimera etc. that help in better comprehension of the complexity of these macromolecules, to the entire sequenced genome of a number of organisms including humans, which gives a better, refined view of the intricacy of life itself. From Structural Databases like GenBank, UniProt, etc, that host information about millions and millions of molecules, to the various tools, like ClustalW, that help extrapolate the phylogenetic relationships between the organisms. The discipline of Bioinformatics in itself is an amalgamation of several scientific disciplines that include fields like Biology, Computer Sciences, Statistics, etc, and is evident as such in the various tools that make up Bioinformatics. Bioinformatics and its various tools have become the pillar on which modern scientific research stands. Bioinformatics, the in-silico approach, is highly efficient and reduces the ever-present reliance on wet lab research and has become a foundational component of modern scientific research.
