Factors influencing patient satisfaction in adult thoracolumbar deformity surgery: a single-center retrospective study

Objective: This study aimed to identify demographic and radiographic factors associated with patient satisfaction after adult thoracolumbar deformity surgery using a single-center retrospective database. Methods: Data were collected from 2014 to 2021.Of 359 patients screened, 107 met the inclusion criteria. The Scoliosis Research Society 22-item questionnaire (SRS-22), Oswestry Disability Index, 36-item Short Form Health Survey, and visual analog scale were used to assess outcomes preoperatively and 2 years postoperatively; sagittal parameters were also analyzed.Patient satisfaction was determined using the satisfaction domain of the SRS-22 at 2 years postoperatively. Results: Baseline demographic and surgical parameters did not differ significantly between the satisfied and dissatisfied groups. However, at 2 years postoperatively, the dissatisfied group had greater C2-7 cervical lordosis (CL) than the satisfied group.Multivariate logistic regression identified greater cervical lordosis as the only significant factor associated with dissatisfaction: odds ratio, 1.04 per 1° increase; 95% confidence interval, 1.00-1.07;p=0.032.Conclusion: In this single-center retrospective study, greater CL at 2 years postoperatively was associated with lower patient satisfaction after adult thoracolumbar deformity surgery.
