From prioritisation to deliverability: decision making in green infrastructure provision

Green infrastructure provision is increasingly supported by a range of tools to aid decision-making. This article discusses the use and benefits of these, focusing on i-Tree Eco, Tree Equity Score UK and the 3–30-300 rule. Tools are useful in providing evidence to support decision-making and helping to prioritise green infrastructure need. However, deliverability and community engagement are often overlooked, creating an “implementation gap”. Tools to aid decision-making serve a useful purpose. However, they must not be allowed to replace expert judgement. An opportunity-based framework is proposed which combines data-based prioritisation and assessment, with localised site assessment and community engagement.
