Human-Centered AI Education for Viksit Bharat @2047: Reimagining Teachers, Learners and Future-Ready Schools

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence is reshaping how societies function, communicate, learn and innovate, and India stands at a particularly consequential point in this shift. The arrival of generative AI, adaptive learning platforms and intelligent digital tools presents the country with both a rare opportunity and a demanding policy challenge on its path toward Viksit Bharat @2047. Education sits at the heart of this challenge, because the citizens, workers and innovators who will carry that vision forward are being shaped right now, inside today's classrooms. This conceptual paper asks how Artificial Intelligence can genuinely strengthen India's education system without eroding the human qualities that make learning meaningful: agency, creativity, ethics and social responsibility. Drawing on an integrative reading of policy documents and international literature - UNESCO's AI competency frameworks, OECD perspectives on AI literacy, India's National Education Policy 2020, the IndiaAI Mission, the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, ILO research on generative AI and employment, and the author's own practitioner book AI and Us - the paper argues that the real question is not whether AI will replace teachers, but whether schools can build a working partnership between teachers, learners and AI. The paper introduces a Human-Centered AI Education Framework built around six interlocking dimensions: AI Literacy, AI-Augmented Pedagogy, Human Skills, Ethical and Responsible Use, Inclusive Digital Infrastructure, and Continuous Professional Learning. It also sketches a Teacher-AI-Student ecosystem in which AI takes on assistive and analytical work while teachers hold on to pedagogical, relational and ethical authority. Viksit Bharat @2047, the paper contends, does not just need citizens who are skilled at using AI - it needs citizens who are AI-literate, critical, creative, ethical and socially engaged. The paper closes with policy recommendations aimed at schools, teacher-education institutions, government bodies and educational technology developers.
