Large-Scale 3D Printing: Extrusion vs. Direct Bulk Layer Manufacturing
AbstractLarge-scale 3D printing is predominantly based on extrusion, in whichgeometric definition and material deposition are performed simultaneouslythrough a controlled nozzle. While this approach provides substantialgeometric flexibility, the coupling between deposition path, layer thickness, material flow, geometric resolution, and production throughput can becomeincreasingly restrictive as manufacturing scale increases. This studypresents Direct Bulk Layer Manufacturing (DBLM) as an alternativelayer-wise manufacturing architecture in which geometric definition isseparated from high-volume material placement.
