HEMODYNAMIC PROFILES OF INTRATHECAL HYPERBARIC BUPIVACAINE 0.5% VERSUS HYPERBARIC LEVOBUPIVACAINE 0.5% IN ELDERLY POPULATION UNDERGOING INFRAUMBILICAL SURGERIES - A RANDOMIZED DOUBLE BLIND STUDY

Objectives: Primary objective- To Compare hemodynamic profile of intrathecal hyperbaric Bupivacaine 0.5% andLevobupivacaine 0.5% in ASA II and III elderly population undergoing infraumbilical surgeries. Secondary objectives-1) Tocompare requirement of vasopressor between the two groups 2) To compare duration of analgesia between the two groups. Methods: A randomized double-blind interventional study included 90 ASA II–III patients aged ≥60 years undergoing electiveinfraumbilical surgeries under spinal anaesthesia. Patients were randomized to receive 0.5% hyperbaric Bupivacaine or 0.5%hyperbaric Levobupivacaine. Haemodynamic parameters were monitored intraoperatively. Data was analysed using SPSSversion 22 with appropriate statistical tests, considering p < 0.05 as statistically significant. Results: The haemodynamicparameters showed no statistically significant different between the two groups, however vasopressor requirement was higherin Bupivacaine group as compared to Levobupivacaine group showing a statistically significant difference (p <0.05). Durationof analgesia did not differ significantly between the groups. Conclusion: Levobupivacaine may be considered a morehemodynamically stable option for spinal anaesthesia in geriatric population undergoing infraumbilical surgeries.
