Effect of Myrtenol-solid lipid nanoparticles on dexamethasone-induced hyperglycemia in rats
Objective: To evaluate the hypoglycemic effect of myrtenol-solid lipid nanoparticles (Myrtenol-SLN) in dexamethasone-induced hyperglycemic rats. Methods: Thirty adult male Wistar rats were divided into five groups: normal control, normal treated with Myrtenol-SLN, hyperglycemic control, metformin-treated, and Myrtenol-SLN-treated groups. Hyperglycemia was induced by intraperitoneal dexamethasone (1 mg/kg) for 8 days. Treatments were administered orally for 10 days. Blood glucose levels were measured daily using a glucometer. Results: Myrtenol-SLN treatment significantly reduced blood glucose levels by day 5 and showed a highly significant reduction by day 10 compared with baseline values. The hypoglycemic effect of Myrtenol-SLN was comparable to metformin, with no significant differences observed between the two treatment groups during the study period. No adverse effects were detected throughout the experiment. Conclusions: Myrtenol-SLN demonstrated a significant hypoglycemic effect in dexamethasone-induced hyperglycemic rats and may represent a promising natural therapeutic approach for hyperglycemia management.
