Exploration of the discourse of ultras supporters’ groups on digital social networks and its implications

This article examines the interaction between discourse and its effects on representations, exploring how language and communication on digital social networks shape interactions and influence perceptions, attitudes, and behaviours. More specifically, the study conducts an in-depth analysis of the discourse disseminated by the Facebook page of the ultras supporters’ group ‘Ultras Eagles 06’ and its impact on the representations of its audience. The analysis investigates recurring themes, tones, rhetorical strategies, and audience reactions. It also examines how this discourse affects attitudes and behaviours, as well as the perception of sporting events and broader social issues. Ultimately, this study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the evolution of ultras’ movements and their influence on the sports landscape as a whole.
