The Role of NEP 2020 in Enhancing Skill Development and Employability: A Study in context of Viksit Bharat 2047

Abstract As India strives toward the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, the transformation of its human capital through education and skill development has emerged as a critical strategic imperative towards employability. This research paper examines the pivotal role of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in reshaping India’s skill ecosystem, aiming to transition it from a fragmented, low-status pathway into a dynamic engine of youth empowerment and economic growth. By synthesizing empirical evidence from recent studies and policy analyses, this study evaluates how the framework of NEP 2020 enhances skill development and employability The study also investigates how various skills like perseverance, collaboration, information literacy, creativity, soft skills, technological skills, social skills, and media literacy embedded through NEP 2020 results in employability. Findings suggest that NEP 2020 provides a robust theoretical foundation for enhancing employability and fostering a knowledge economy to catalyze socio-economic transformation, ensuring that education and skill development serve as the cornerstone of sustainable national development and the realization of Viksit Bharat 2047.
