Person-Anchored Constructivism in the Age of Subjectivity Homogenization
Generative AI makes it easier for one person to write like another. That familiar observation is only the entry point here. My concern is with what may happen before a sentence appears: the selection of distinctions, the ordering of values, and the judgment by which a person decides that this, rather than something else, is worth saying. I use Person-Anchored Constructivism in the Age of Subjectivity Homogenization for the theory developed in this article. It describes the lifelong formation and re-formation of a Personal Construct Order by a concrete person. Experience, judgment, choice, and responsibility are not four variables added to that order. They are what keep it anchored in the person whose order it is. Subjectivity Homogenization names the condition in which shared forms of expression or evaluation begin to take over that constructive work. I distinguish three places at which this may happen: expression, judgment, and the order governing a person's constructs. To make this distinction, I draw on personal construct psychology, research on writing as thinking, reflexivity, and participatory sense-making. I also separate the Personal Construct System from its ordering dimension, the Personal Construct Order. The process connecting these claims is the Subjectivity Reconstruction Loop: The Concrete Person → Personal Construct Order → Reflexive Construing → Construct Externalization → Intersubjective Loop → Emergence of Discrepancy → Construct Recalibration → Reconstruction of the Person. Repeated completion of that loop constitutes the Individuation of Subjectivity. Eight propositions set out how homogenization, person-anchoring, and reconstruction are related.
