Micro‐Area Interface Regulation for Electromagnetic Responses: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Functional Integration

ABSTRACT With the rapid evolution of communication technologies, the integration density of modern electronic devices has increased dramatically. This progress has, however, exacerbated electromagnetic pollution across various application scenarios, creating an urgent demand for high‐performance electromagnetic (EM) absorption materials. As the fundamental “building block” that governs the intrinsic properties of functional materials, micro‐area interfaces hold tremendous potential for optimizing microwave absorption performance. Tailored micro‐area interfaces can trigger a cascade of beneficial effects, including enhanced interface polarization, optimized hierarchical structure, amplified magnetic coupling, facilitated conductive network, and precise modulation of electronic state, all of which contribute to stronger attenuation and absorption of incident microwaves. This paper outlines a dual‐dimensional regulation strategy to maximize the microwave energy response of absorption materials: interface topology reconstruction for assembling‐pattern materials, and surface interface modification for supported‐pattern materials. This approach enables precise tuning of component compatibility, defect configuration, and charge transfer efficiency at the micro‐area interfaces, unlocking full absorption potential. We further review current advances in multifunctional and intelligent EM absorption devices enabled by micro‐area interface engineering. Finally, the existing challenges in interface visualization/stability, along with corresponding possible solutions, are presented, and the future development direction is also outlined.
