B&E Draft 1
This document is divided into two main parts. The first develops a theoretical framework for analyzing information in deterministic systems and processes, establishing the definitions, distinctions, and analytical principles required for the analysis. Within this framework, deterministic information is defined as information that, under fixed rules and constraints, specifies a unique outcome in a deterministic system or process. The second part applies this framework to biological development and reproduction. It examines the information required for a single fertilized cell to generate a spatially organized and differentiated organism, and asks what theoretical constraints can be placed on the amount and location of that information. The analysis further examines whether the DNA sequence of the fertilized egg, together with its epigenetic state, is sufficient to account for the deterministic information required for organismal development.
