Discovery of Boulenophrys changyangensis Li, Shi, Liu, Zhao, Gao & Wang, 2025 (Anura, Megophryidae) in Hunan, China, and extension of its distribution southward

We record Boulenophrys changyangensis Li, Shi, Liu, Zhao, Gao & Wang, 2025 from Hunan Xiaoxi National Nature Reserve, Hunan, China. This is the second known locality of this species and the first record in Hunan Province. The new record extends the species’ distribution range approximately 200 km to the south. Phylogenetic reconstruction and uncorrected p -distances indicated subtle but distinct genetic differentiation between the newly discovered population and the topotypic population, highlighting the potential role of rivers and lowland plains in isolating populations of this species.
