Effect of Static Elastic Stress on the Corrosion Behavior of Copper–Aluminum Composite Plates
ABSTRACT Salt spray and immersion corrosion tests were implemented to explore the influences of static elastic tensile stress ranging from 20% to 60% yield strength (σ s ) on the corrosion performance of cast‐rolled Cu–Al composite plates. Tensile stress modulates the integrity of passive films, dislocation density and grain boundary characteristics. Pitting preferentially nucleates at the Cu‐Al interfacial zone of the Al matrix, with Al 2 O 3 and AlOOH identified as dominant corrosion products. Applied tensile stress shifts corrosion potential negatively and accelerates chloride‐triggered pitting degradation, while the corrosion rate exhibits a rise‐fall‐rise evolution trend with increasing stress magnitude.
