Photoredox/Cobalt-Catalyzed SO2-Retaining Truce–Smiles Rearrangement Induced by Hydrogen Atom Transfer (HAT)

Abstract Herein, a distinctive hydrogen atom transfer (HAT)-initiated SO2-retaining Truce–Smiles rearrangement of unactivated alkenes under dual photoredox and cobalt catalysis is disclosed. A diverse array of γ/δ-heteroarylalkyl sulfones are efficiently constructed in high yields via a one-step operation. This transformation proceeds under mild conditions with high efficiency and broad substrate generality, accommodating mono- and disubstituted terminal alkenes as well as di- and trisubstituted internal alkenes. Moreover, an unusual 1,6-aryl migration is proven to be feasible in the reaction.
