Acute Post-Traumatic Right Diaphragmatic Rupture with Massive Intrathoracic Liver Herniation Following Blunt Thoracoabdominal Trauma: A Case Report and Literature Review

Traumatic diaphragmatic injury (TDI) is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening consequence of thoracoabdominal trauma. Right-sided diaphragmatic rupture is particularly rare because the liver provides partial protection to the right hemidiaphragm. Delayed diagnosis may result in progressive visceral herniation, respiratory compromise, strangulation, and increased mortality. Early recognition using multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and prompt surgical repair are therefore essential.
