Use of biochar to reduce nutrient leaching, promote long term soil fertility and improve the overall sustainability of crop rotations – CH4R Project

The poster entitled ‘Use of biochar to reduce nutrient leaching, promote long term soil fertility and improve the overall sustainability of crop rotations – CH4R Project’ was presented at the SOILS FOR EUROPE CONFERENCE, which took place from 7 to 11 September 2026 in Coimbra, Portugal.Specifically, the presentation was given during the session on Thursday 10 September named 'New technologies and innovations to enhance soil health'. This poster summarises the objectives, methodology of the experiments carried out as part of the project to investigate how biochar can limit the leaching of nutrients, with a focus on nitrogen and phosphorus. The poster displays the results of the experiments and includes QR codes that can be scanned to download the handbook entitled 'Use of Enriched Biochar in Horticulture and Biogas and Biomethane Production for the Circular Use of Agricultural Residues as Bio-based Soil Amendments and Fertilisers', produced as part of the project and available in both Italian and English, as well as to watch webinars focusing on the use of biochar in agriculture and for energy production within the context of the circular bioeconomy.
