Isomorphic Reading: The Uniqueness of the Epistemic Channel for Objective Data Systems: From the Factor Hierarchy Law and the Information Isomorphism Law to the Conditional Uniqueness Theorem
This paper proposes and argues for a core proposition: within the scope of knowledge about objective data systems, isomorphic reading is the only testifiable and independently replicable epistemic channel; if the Factor Hierarchy Law and the Information Isomorphism Law hold, then it is further the only epistemic channel. What this paper calls “isomorphic reading” refers to the operation of recovering information about regime structure from statistical structure—an operation traditionally called “fitting” in academic practice. Isomorphic reading is a descriptive category—it describes how the epistemic process occurs in objective data systems; this description simultaneously possesses normative force: it points to a unique epistemic channel. The core proposition is given in the form of a Conditional Uniqueness Theorem, and is distinguished into a Testifiable Uniqueness Proposition and an Epistemic Channel Uniqueness Proposition. This paper provides two independent supporting arguments: a life-system anchor and an a priori origin argument. The diagnosis of the stigmatization of “fitting” in this paper has as its empirical basis Breiman’s (2001) “two cultures” debate, Leamer’s (1983) critique of econometrics, and Simmons et al.’s (2011) false-positive psychology; it is not the author’s subjective conjecture but a literature-supported academic phenomenon. This paper also proposes the six procedures of the Testability Norms as an operational definition of “correct reading,” and introduces the replication levels R0–R4. This paper is a thematic argument within the framework of Information Isomorphism Epistemology (Tang, 2026ad).
