Green catalytic approaches for the synthesis of Schiff’s base

The abundance, affordability and ecofriendly nature of the green and natural catalyst has opened new avenue in the sustainable organic synthesis due to presence of different types of functional groups. Hence, this study explored the efficiency of various natural green catalysts towards the synthesis of N-Benzylideneaniline (Schiff base). We have systematically evaluated the positive impact of the reaction conditions e.g. catalysts type, solvent, temperature etc. on the overall efficiency of the reactions. Our finding reveals that the synergistic combination of aniline, benzaldehyde and these natural catalysts yields the target Schiff base in excellent efficiencies ranging from 59% to 86%. Ultimately this protocol offers a mild, cost effective and highly sustainable frame work that can be readily extended for the synthesis of Schiff bases under green conditions. Furthermore, this optimized protocol was successfully extended to the synthesis of various N-benzylideneaniline derivatives, demonstrating excellent functional group tolerance.
