From Digital Libraries to Intelligent Knowledge Hubs: Reimagining Libraries for Viksit Bharat @2047

The evolution of digital technologies has fundamentally transformed the role of libraries in society. Libraries that were once physical repositories of printed material are now providing greater access to e-books, e-journals, digital repositories, online databases, and institutional resources. The next frontier in this evolution is the creation of intelligent knowledge hubs, enabled by new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, natural language processing, and multilingual systems. Intelligent libraries have the potential to be critical knowledge infrastructures for education, research, innovation, digital literacy, skill development, and lifelong learning in the context of Viksit Bharat @2047. Digital resources and remote information services can help bridge the knowledge divide between rural and urban communities, while multilingual digital content can enhance information access for a diverse range of users. At the same time, the development of intelligent knowledge hubs also presents a number of challenges, including inadequate digital infrastructure, financial constraints, skills gaps, data privacy, cybersecurity, copyright, and ethical issues around AI. Consequently, technological development needs to be supported by well-trained library professionals, robust security measures, ethical practices, and user-focused policies. By taking an inclusive and sustainable approach, intelligent libraries can play a significant role in advancing a knowledge-driven, digitally empowered, and inclusive Viksit Bharat @2047
