The Effect of Work Stress on Teacher Performance with Job Satisfaction as a Mediating Variable
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the effect of work stress on teacher performance with job satisfaction as a mediating variable among civil servant teachers at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Ambon. The variables used in this study include work stress as the independent variable, job satisfaction as the intervening variable, and teacher performance as the dependent variable. The research method used is a quantitative approach with data collection conducted through questionnaires distributed to 42 respondents selected using a saturated sampling technique. The collected data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS) with the assistance of SmartPLS software. The results of the study indicate that work stress has a negative and significant effect on job satisfaction and also has a negative and significant effect on teacher performance. Meanwhile, job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance. In addition, job satisfaction is proven to mediate the effect of work stress on teacher performance. These findings suggest that lower levels of work stress can increase job satisfaction, which in turn leads to improved teacher performance. This study is expected to contribute to schools in managing teachers’ work stress levels and enhancing job satisfaction in order to support optimal teacher performance.
