What Distinguishes the Art and Aesthetics of Momin Khan Momin's Poetry?
The paper examines the distinctive qualities of Momin’s poetry. Here, I have chosen an important nineteenth-century Urdu poet, Momin Khan Momin, whose poetry is as noteworthy and appreciable as that of Mir and Ghalib. I have discussed the most distinctive qualities of his poetry and compared them with the poetry of Mir, Ghalib, Jigar and the English poet Lord Byron. Although a vast body of literature is available in English on Mir, Ghalib, Iqbal, Faiz and other writers, I have found very little written in English specifically on Momin. Through the long and extensive reading, I have gradually developed this study of Momin’s poetry; thus, the analysis is based on my intermittent contemplation of his poems. In discussing the major qualities of his poems, I have illustrated them with precise examples from his Diwan as well. His poetry is certainly extraordinary in its seeming ordinariness and profound in its apparent simplicity. All the Urdu couplets used in the explanation have been translated by the author.
