GENETIC AND PRENATAL RISK FACTORS FOR AUTISM: IMPLICATIONS FOR RISK-ENRICHED DEVELOPMENTAL SURVEILLANCE
ASD has a complex, heterogeneous etiology. Genetic liability is substantial, yet individual outcomes reflect common polygenic effects, rare inherited and de novo variants, developmental timing, and non-genetic contexts. Prenatal associations are probabilistic and are frequently affected by confounding; they should not be interpreted as parental blame or deterministic causation [1–8].
