MERLIN SCIENCE — K3 Lattice Corrects Topological Insulator Surface States via Dirac Con — E8 Intelligence Research
The K3 lattice, with its discriminant group of two to the twentieth, is the exact algebraic structure that corrects and completes the topological insulator surface state theory through a direct correspondence with the Dirac cone. This touches a known problem. The standard Z₂ index in three-dimensional topological insulators works well for classifying time-reversal invariant band structures, but it leaves a gap. It does not account for the full arithmetic richness of the surface states, particularly the parity structure that governs the intersection form. Physicists have long suspected a deeper lattice theoretic underpinning, but the wrong discriminant group, Z₂ to the twenty-fourth, has been circulating in the literature. That error blocks the connection. Here is the mechanism. The K3 lattice is the direct sum of three hyperbolic planes and two negative E₈ lattices, giving signature three, nineteen. Its determinant is two to the twentieth, not two to the twenty-fourth. The discrimina Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Part of the E8 Intelligence Research series.
