The Universe Before the Beginning of Time: the Substrate Statistics of the Emergent Causal Time Theory

In the time-bubble nucleation scenario of the emergent causal time theory the universe originates as a Lorentzian bubble inside a timeless three-dimensional substrate, whose fluctuation spectrum is an unexplained initial condition. Rather than the matter density, we construct the statistics of an independent soft field–the substrate's causal density–as those of a static three-dimensional Gaussian random field, unbounded above. Under a frequency-integral reduction of the contact-subtracted causal-network d'Alembertian its covariance is log-correlated above the nonlocality scale, $P_3(\kappa)\propto\kappa^{-3}$, a formal substrate index $n_{s,\mathrm{sub}}=1$. Within that reduction the exponent is fixed across the generic operator class, and the measure is numerically positive on the tested range; both are properties of the operator on the euclidean ($Z>0$) axis, and the reduction itself is one of the construction's open choices. Because the substrate is scalar–a causal-density field with no spin-2 carrier and no inflationary amplification–the minimal realisation gives a vanishing tensor-to-scalar ratio at observable scales, $r\approx0$ (conditional on a tensor-free substrate), the most robust of its near-future-testable statements. The observable is the adiabatic time-shift seeded by the unbounded causal density (conditional on a nucleation trajectory), unclipped rather than the clipped bounded lapse; the resulting local non-Gaussianity, $f_{\rm NL}=-(5/6)\ddot{\mathfrak r}/(\dot{\mathfrak r}C)$, may naturally be of order unity if the crossing and transfer share a scale ($\ddot{\mathfrak r}/\dot{\mathfrak r}\sim C$)–the amplitude-independent $10^4$ of the clipped case being structurally avoided, though the value itself is a possible signature set by the open nucleation dynamics rather than a bounded prediction. The scalar index is $n_{s,\mathrm{sub}}=1$ at the substrate level; whether the observed curvature perturbation inherits it depends on a nucleation transfer whose conditions we make explicit, and any departure from scale invariance requires an ingredient beyond the static core. We separate throughout between established result, observation and conjecture, and list the reductions the construction leaves open.
