THE EFFECT OF WORKLOAD ON TEACHER PERFORMANCE WITH WORK COMMITMENT AS A MEDIATING VARIABLE

Abstract This study aims to analyze the effect of workload on teacher performance with work commitment as a mediating variable at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Ambon. The population in this study consisted of all civil servant teachers at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Ambon, totaling 42 teachers. The research sample was determined using a saturated sampling technique, in which all members of the population were included as respondents. Data analysis was conducted using SmartPLS 4 through the evaluation of the measurement model (outer model) and the structural model (inner model). The results of the study show that: (1) workload has a negative and significant effect on teacher performance at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Ambon; (2) workload has a negative and significant effect on work commitment, indicating that the higher the workload perceived by teachers, the lower their work commitment; (3) work commitment has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance, meaning that the higher the work commitment, the better the performance produced; and (4) work commitment is proven to play a mediating role in the effect of workload on teacher performance. This indicates that an increase in workload not only has a direct impact on decreasing teacher performance but can also reduce work commitment, which ultimately contributes to affecting teacher performance.
