Miniaturised conformal multiple-input-multiple-output patch antenna for 5th Generation millimeter wave applications
The need for fast wireless communication has led to the design of miniaturised MIMO antennas with the use of mmWave technology for 5 G and wearable systems. Nevertheless, the challenge is still there when it comes to isolating the antenna, making the antenna miniaturised, stable impedance matching, and conformable. This paper aims to present a conformable microstrip patch MIMO antenna with 2 ports working at 60 GHz and with the help of a polyimide substrate. Using slot-loading, tilting, and Defected Ground Structure (DGS) as a method to make the antenna have resonance tuning, isolation, and impedance matching, the designed antenna exhibits a wide band of operation of 1.85 GHz, from 59.09 to 60.94 GHz, and a gain of 7.5 dBi with isolation higher than 34 dB. Conformability and stability are achieved by obtaining ECC less than 0.02, DG of about 10 dB, and CCL lower than 0.03 bits/Hz/s.
