Molecular Cloning and Functional Analysis of VPS54 in Arabidopsis
Phloem unloading is a critical process for plant growth, as it determines how photosynthetic products are distributed to sink organs like roots. This project investigates the potential regulators of phloem unloading in the Arabidopsis thaliana root apex, focusing on a candidate gene discovered through forward genetic screening: VPS54. Using a combination of molecular cloning, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and GFP tracer assays, this research aims to identify the casual mutation and characterize its functional role in regulating phloem unloading. The results will provide new insights into how plants modulate nutrient flow to support root development.
