Phytochemical Composition and Biological Activies of the Extracts of Hypericum perforatum and Chamomillae romanae

Abstract In this research, biological activities such as antibacterial and antioxidant activities of acetone and chloroform extracts of Hypericum perforatum and Chamomillae romanae plants and their phytochemical contents were investigated using GC-MS and HPLC devices. Acetone extracts of plants exhibited higher antibacterial activity compared to chloroform extracts. The highest total antioxidant capacity was found as 130 ± 0.014 µg AAE/mL in acetone extract of H. perforatum while the lowest total antioxidant capacity was found as 81.37 ± 0.011 µg AAE/mL in acetone extract of C. romanae. In the light of the obtained data, it was concluded that the tested H. perforatum and C. romanae plants could be a natural antioxidant and antibacterial source.
