Genomic insights into the evolution and domestication of persimmon
This project releases genomic resources for persimmon (Diospyros) generated to study autopolyploid evolution and domestication. We produced chromosome-scale genome assemblies and gene annotations for three representative species that form a ploidy series from diploid to hexaploid: Diospyros sp. Yemaoshi (2x), D. rhombifolia (4x) and cultivated persimmon D. kaki Fuyu (6x). The archive includes raw sequencing reads from PacBio HiFi, Illumina and Hi-C libraries, the final assembled genomes and structural annotations, as well as whole-genome resequencing data for 256 D. kaki cultivars and selected wild relatives. These datasets provide a comprehensive genomic framework for investigating polyploid genome evolution, phylogeography and domestication in persimmon and related perennial fruit trees.
