Experimental study on vibration and temperature rise characteristics of rotor-bearing system lubricated by gas–liquid two-phase fluid
Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the operational characteristics of the gas–liquid two-phase fluid lubricated rotor system. Design/methodology/approach In this study, an experimental device for a gas–liquid two-phase fluid lubrication rotor system was established to investigate the effects of structural parameters of the rotor system and lubricating-oil viscosity on vibration characteristics and temperature rise. Findings Compared with monophasic fluids, the lubrication film formed by gas–liquid two-phase fluids has weaker stability and carrying capacity, making the vibration of the rotor more likely to be transmitted and amplified. The support spacing and mass of the rotor significantly alter the vibration and temperature rise characteristics of the system by affecting the support stiffness and the intensity of external excitation. Originality/value The study’s findings might serve as a guide for enhancing rotor bearing systems’ operational efficiency when lubricated with gas–liquid two-phase fluid.
