Sprachdenkmäler auf der Roten Liste: Die althochdeutschen Farbstiftglossen
Abstract Besides quills and styluses, coloured pencils were also used for recording glosses in the Middle Ages. This technique is proving increasingly problematic, as colour does not adhere well to the parchment, which is why coloured pencil glosses are at considerable risk. Some of them have demonstrably been irretrievably lost in recent times. The glosses in the manuscript München, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Clm 18556a, represent a particularly alarming case. This article recalls the peculiar transmission of coloured pencil glosses and demonstrates their precarious status using the aforementioned glosses as examples. The relevant corpus is presented in its entirety in a new edition.
