Drivers of Work Motivation in a Military Organization: The Roles of Compensation, Work Discipline, and Work Environment
ABSTRACT : Work motivation is an important factor in supporting the effectiveness of task implementation, especially in military organizations that have hierarchical characteristics, high discipline, and strong demands for responsibility. This study aims to analyze the influence of compensation, work discipline, and the work environment on the work motivation of members of Sultan Hasanuddin Air Force Base Makassar, both partially and simultaneously. The study used a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The population consisted of 105 members and the entire population was sampled through census or total sampling techniques. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using multiple linear regression. Tests included instrument validity and reliability, regression assumption tests, t-tests, and F-tests. The results showed that compensation, work discipline, and the work environment had a positive effect on work motivation. Simultaneously, these three variables also had a significant effect on work motivation, with the work environment showing the most prominent influence based on the regression coefficient. These findings confirm that member motivation in military organizations is related to a combination of organizational rewards, consistent discipline, and a supportive work environment. Practically, organizations need to integrate appropriate compensation management, consistent discipline implementation, and improvements in working conditions, facilities, equipment, and interpersonal relationships to support member motivation sustainably.
