Accreditation of Self-directed Learning in the Person-centred Approach

In 1985 T completed a three year PCA training which included direct exposure to Carl Rogers, Chuck Devonshire, Alberto Zucconi, John K Wood and others who profoundly influenced my thinking. Since that time, I have undertaken an eclectic self-directed training encompassing psychodynamic, systemic, transpersonal and family therapy and a Master's degree in social work under a number of professors eminent in their fields. I have practised individual psychotherapy in a range of different NHS and social services settings, but have more often directed my interventions systemically at individuals and groups working directly with children and adults. The frame in which individual therapy has taken place has often been outside the traditional therapeutic hour and secure setting of my office, but the process has been no less self-disciplined or conscious in intent. My own hours as a client meet the requirements of most therapist training institutions though I have no doubt that my original motivation included the need to sort my own personal angst. Other than membership of BAPCA and the British Association of Social Workers as ethical flagpoles that I am prepared to nail my colours to, I remain independent and unaccredited.
