The Structures That Must Exist
The Structures That Must Exist: an exhaustive census of what a minimal grammar cannot avoid. Some structures of physics are argued into existence; this paper counts them instead. We take the smallestgenerative rule a matrix world admits, multiply by the mirror image and subtract, and we enumerate everybinary starting point up to size five: thirty-three million seeds, enumerated to exhaustion through an orbitsieve, every run executed twice, to the byte. What survives enumeration is not a repertoire of possibilitiesbut a short list of necessities. The seed of minimal weight is unique and forced, and it generates the ladderalgebra of quantum mechanics. The spectrum of reachable structures has holes that are theorems, notaccidents, and one predicted hole closed on schedule when the census reached the next size. Asix-dimensional family carries, without being asked, the metric of special relativity, returned by thecomputation together with its exact quadratic invariant. No single seed, on any alphabet we tested, can everbuild a clock; pairs of individually inert seeds build thousands, so on this type the measurement of time issomething two systems do together. The reach of the rule has walls that we measured rather than assumed:no Poincaré algebra, no metric of dimension above the matrix size, and a gate law that survived two tests, fell at its third, and stands re-perimetered with its fall on record. At the boundary of the map we report twoencounters with the world: the census arithmetic certified on quantum processors, with the instrumentaudited to the point of retiring one of our own published-internal claims, and a detection program onelectron-microscopy movies that certified itself in thirteen runs and then measured its first no. At size six thebipartite stratum resolves into six simple building blocks, never compact and never de Sitter; the absenceacquires a two-part mechanism, half theorem, half measured inequality, with a registered size-seven tablethat can kill either half; and exactly one species, the conformal one, carries an internal rotation whose squareis minus the identity on its coset. The numerical constants never emerge: they enter by hand, and we printexactly where. Every count in this paper carries its perimeter, and every registered bet that fell is listed at theend.
