A Rare Case of Pyogenic Granuloma on the Lip in a 10-Year-Old Girl: Case Report and Literature Review

Oral pyogenic granulomas (PGs) are well documented in the literature and are a commonly encountered lesion in routine clinical practice.However, their extragingival occurrence is rare and often has an unusual presentation.The clinical diagnosis of uncommon extragingival PG can be quite challenging.In the present case report, a 10-year-old female presented with a soft, tender swelling of 2 × 1.5 centimetres, which was pink, smooth-surfaced, sessile, and prone to bleeding and was provisionally diagnosed as PG.The excision was performed using a minimally invasive treatment modality of 980-nm diode laser in pulsed mode at 1.5 W under local anesthesia.Histopathological examination confirmed PG.At 3-month follow-up, complete healing was observed without scarring or recurrence.The purpose of this article is to report an unusual case of PG occurring on the lower lip.A further aim is to present a review of the total number of PG of lip cases reported in children through searching databases, citation tracking, and manual reference screening.Very few cases of PG have been reported earlier on the lip in children (up to 14 years).
