A text mining evaluation of seaweed uses in dairy production considering environmental, economic, and social sustainability dimensions
Seaweed has emerged as promising for enhancing the sustainability of dairy. To map research trends and identify knowledge gaps, this study applied text mining (TM) to 103 peer-reviewed documents retrieved from Scopus and Web of Science. The search was designed to capture studies aligned with three sustainability pillars, namely environmental, economic, and social. Term weighting (TFIDF), and topic modeling (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) were performed. The analyzed corpus shows a sharp increase in publications since 2013, with the United States, Australia, and European countries leading publication output according to the corresponding-author affiliations in the retrieved documents. The analysis based on TM revealed a strong emphasis on the use of seaweed as additives for reducing methane emissions. Three topics related to the use of seaweed were identified: (1) environmental implications (2) productivity implications and (3) use as industrial additives. Research on seaweed in dairy has grown rapidly in the last decade, but remains uneven across the three sustainability dimensions within the sampled literature.
