Recognising Stroke-Related Neurobehavioral Manifestations in Clinical Practice: An Evidence-Informed Review

This evidence-informed narrative review synthesises current evidence on stroke-related neurobehavioral manifestations, with emphasis on their recognition, clinical significance, and implications for multidisciplinary stroke care and decision-making capacity. Manifestations including impaired insight, anosognosia, executive dysfunction, emotional dysregulation, apathy, impulsivity, and treatment-related behavioural disturbances may affect treatment engagement, rehabilitation participation, patient safety, multidisciplinary communication, and healthcare decision-making. The review proposes an evidence-informed conceptual framework to support structured clinical recognition and multidisciplinary management while complementing established neurological and cognitive assessment pathways. The framework is conceptual and has not yet been prospectively validated.
