Local and Gradual Updating in Human Psychic Processing
This technical note develops a human-specific account of local and gradual updating within the Human Psychic Processing / Psychological Architecture branch of GTCS while preserving a strict distinction from structural transformation. Actual structural transformation remains an independently established realized successor event. The present construction instead addresses cross-observation change in exact human-processing records. The architecture distinguishes five separate surfaces. Local difference compares two ordered, same-target, context-compatible observations under one declared source-specific comparison surface. Local update is a stronger qualification of a positive local difference under an independently specified update criterion and evidence profile. Retention is an optional later qualification of an exact update-related feature at a distinct later observation. Reuse separately records participation of that retained feature in a later source-specific application. Gradual updating is an ordered multi-update construction requiring at least two distinct positive local-update applications under an explicit same-target sequence specification. These constructions form a dependency architecture rather than a universal process pipeline. Local difference does not imply local update. Local update does not imply retention. Retention does not imply reuse. Retention and reuse do not imply gradual updating, and gradual updating does not require either unless a specific sequence contract explicitly does so. Retention is observation-relative and does not establish continuous persistence between observations. Gradual updating does not imply monotonic progress, common-scale accumulation, stabilization, trajectory-dependent regulation, future effect, or structural realization. Exact records from focal attention, symbolic regulation, affect-like modulation, repetition and return, avoidance and displacement, restricted psychic accessibility, overload-linked processing, or symbolic clarity and closure may serve as source-specific observations or evidence while preserving their original owner semantics. The resulting framework provides a provenance-preserving account of local and multi-observation human change without treating such change as a fraction of structural realization or as evidence of benefit, persistence, actionability, identity continuity, or future structural admissibility.
