The link between family-preschool partnership and home learning environment

The Family–Educator Partnership (FEP) and the Home Learning Environment (HLE) play a critical role in supporting children’s early development. This study investigated the relationship between the FEP and the HLE among 737 families and 92 educators in Greece. Using parent- and teacher-reported surveys, correlations and generalised linear models revealed that parent-reported FEP dimensions were significantly associated with HLE indicators. Collaborative learning activities across home and educators were associated with greater engagement in technology-based learning activities at home, shared educational goals between parents and educators were linked to more supportive parent–child interactions, and the parent-educator communication was associated with lower parent–child conflict. Additionally, parents with higher education levels reported lower parent-educator communication, collaborative learning activities across home and educators, and shared educational goals, whereas educators who had received FEP-related training reported higher parent-educator communication and shared goals. Educators’ work experience was not associated with FEP. Results indicate that stronger FEP was associated with a more positive HLE, although the correlational design precludes causal conclusions. Findings underscore the importance of targeted professional development for educators and highlight the need to consider parent education when fostering effective FEP to enhance children’s learning experiences.
