Molecular Ferroelectric Catalysis: From Material Design Strategies to Catalytic Applications
ABSTRACT Molecular ferroelectrics are materials possessing a switchable spontaneous polarization under an external electric field. Owing to their advantages of being lightweight, biocompatible, structurally tunable, and mechanically flexible, they have attracted widespread interest. Compared to conventional inorganic ferroelectrics, the properties of molecular ferroelectrics can be precisely optimized through targeted chemical design and crystal engineering. This presents great potential for applications in fields such as catalysis and energy conversion. Herein, we systematically summarize key chemical design approaches for molecular ferroelectrics and highlight recent advances in their catalytic applications. Furthermore, we critically analyze the current challenges in the field of molecular ferroelectric catalysis and outline promising future research directions. By connecting these aspects, this review aims to provide valuable guidance for the rational design of molecular ferroelectrics and to inspire further exploration of their catalytic applications.
