Prospective Cognitive Eversion - From mobile sensing in swarms to distributed architectures among cognizers
This conceptual article introduces Prospective Cognitive Eversion (PCE): an architecture in which mobile units of perception, valuation, and action are projected into an environment, conduct local prospecting, return encoded assessments, and recursively alter the collective allocation of inquiry. Inspired by honeybee swarms but not reducible to a biological analogy, the framework supplies a comparative grammar for human teams, multi-agent systems, robotic telepresence, and inhabitable virtualenvironments. Its contribution is not the already established claim that cognition can be distributed, but the isolation of a projection–prospecting–return–reallocation composition, together with the projectable sensorium and prospective reserve as conditions of revisability. The concept of clinotrail describes recurrent trajectories whose reuse lowers future costs and raises their probability of repetition, enabling either cumulative competence or lock-in. Identification criteria, scope conditions, and testable hypotheses are proposed while keeping functional coordination, collective agency, and phenomenal experience distinct.
