Comment on “Chronic Viral Hepatitis With MASLD: Implications for Clinical and Patient‐Reported Outcomes”

To the Editor, We read with great interest the study by Papatheodoridis et al., which used a large multinational registry and validated patientreported outcome (PRO) instruments to characterize chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with and without superimposed metabolic dysfunctionassociated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) [1].The finding that almost half of participants met the study definition of MASLD, and that these participants reported poorer disease-specific health-related quality of life, draws welcome attention to metabolic health in viral hepatitis.Several issues may help refine the interpretation and clinical application of these findings.
