A 7-year-old boy with cerebral vein thrombosis in favor of multisystem inflammatory syndrome: a case report

Abstract Background The term “multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children” has been known since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic and refers to systemic inflammation with multisystem involvement. Neurological damage in patients with MISC in various clinical forms has been mentioned in several reports. One of these features is thrombus formation in the central venous sinus, which can be accompanied by complications. It is one of the less common complications of MISCs and has been mentioned previously in reports. Case presentation This is a 7-year-old male patient with a multisystem inflammatory syndrome diagnosis that led to CNS hemorrhage secondary to CVST. He had loss of consciousness with seizures and suffered from paralysis of the left cranial six nerve and necrotizing pneumonia. He received anti-inflammatory and antithrombotic treatment and surgery for the lung. He completely recovered after 3 months. Conclusion This patient has a unique form of MISC complication, with CNS sequelae followed by cerebral sinus vein thrombosis and prolonged recovery, with complete resolution of symptoms, which highlights the importance of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.
