Evaluation and Comparison of Shear Bond Strength of Metal Brackets Bonded with Various Indirect Bonding Techniques: An In Vitro Study

Introduction: Indirect bonding offers precise bracket placement but varies in bond strength by technique and materials.Various methods of indirect bonding are being used for more accurate bracket placement.Aims and objectives: The purpose of the study was to compare and assess the shear bond strength (SBS) of four well-established indirect bonding methods.Materials and methodology: Eighty extracted human premolars were randomly allocated into four groups (n = 20): Group I (Vashi technique), group II (thermally cured composite technique), group III (Guenther and Larson technique), and group IV (Sondhi Rapid Set technique).Ormco mini 0.022ʺ premolar brackets were bonded as per protocol.Shear bond strength was measured on a universal testing machine (crosshead speed: 0.5 mm/min, occluso-gingival force). Results: Maximum SBS values were found in group I (Vashi technique 7.21 ± 3.15 MPa), and minimum SBS was found in group II (thermal-cured technique 6.14 ± 1.93 MPa).Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed no significant intergroup differences (F = 0.587, p = 0.637).Conclusion: All four indirect techniques demonstrated clinically adequate SBS suitable for clinical use.
