Antibiotic Prescribing Patterns and Prevalence of Multidrug-Resistant Organisms among Hospitalized Patients in Wadie Helmand Teaching Hospital, Afghanistan
The study reveals a high burden of antimicrobial resistance among hospitalized patients in Helmand province, reflecting inappropriate empirical antibiotic use and a lack of microbiological diagnostics. These findings underscore the urgent need for antibiotic stewardship programs, improved diagnostic capacity, and national surveillance strategies to combat AMR in Afghanistan.
